My problem with the NDP, in a nutshell

Jack thinks that the solution to high cellphone fees is more government regulation, not more competition.

I'm not sure why we should expect the same cell rates as Americans anyway. Can you think of some reasons why Canadians might pay more than Americans for wireless service? Maybe because we're a small population spread out over a huge landmass? Dontcha think our per capita infrastructure costs might be a bit higher?

Along with Jack's nonsense on ATM fees and credit card interest rates, I wonder if
1. Jack is really this dumb.
2. Jack is just playing politics with stupid people, or:
3. Both.

It's both. Jack really is as dumb as he sounds, and he loves tugging at the heartstrings of illogic that so many voters wear.

But one ought not single out Jack Layton. None other than the former Liberal cabinet minister (and former RBC president) John MacCallum once sounded off about credit card interest rates, and he didn't do this from the safety of the Fourth Party benches. He actually held power.

Ah, but there's going to be some entertaining blowback from this. The cellphones-cause-brain-tumors
-and-probably-herpes crowd, who often find solace and succor in the pols of the NDP, will probably give Layton a hard time for suggesting anything less than the wholesale shutdown of the industry.

FWIW, the US cellphone industry is a terrible example to follow. They lag way behind Asia and even Europe in adoption of new technologies, network speeds, handset choice, etc. Don't even get me started about the broadband industry in the US and Canada, which is so far behind east Asia that it's sickening.

So, tell me Krankor, what is it about the broadband industry in Canada?

Oops, you said not to get your started. Sorry.
